Alysia and Chip graduated from The University of Texas in 1997, Alysia with an Economics degree and Chip with an Urban and Regional Planning degree, and both with a business minor. After careers in the legal field for Alysia and the home building field with a nationwide company for Chip, they decided to start an ornamental metal fabrication company, and in 1997 Made of Metal was born.

Chip and Alysia, however, turned back to their first love of building and renovating homes after building their first ground-up project in 2004 and have been building and remodeling ever since.
